The Abayudaya Jewish community of Nasenyi Kalloja, located in the Butebo District near Mbale City in Eastern Uganda, has been growing steadily since its founding in 1919 by Captain Semei Kakungulu. Our small but vibrant community is rooted in subsistence farming and guided by a strong commitment to Torah values and education. We strive to pass on our rich Jewish heritage to the next generation while also equipping our children with the skills they need for success in the modern world.
To achieve our vision, we organize Torah classes for children, ensuring the wisdom of our tradition is shared with the next generation. Additionally, we send our children to school to receive a well-rounded education. Looking ahead, we hope to establish a Jewish school in our community that will seamlessly integrate Torah learning with general education. This school will be a vital resource for preserving our culture and building a brighter future for our children.
We are currently fundraising to support several important initiatives. These include providing food for children learning Hebrew and Judaism, purchasing educational materials like books, chalkboards, and pencils, and paying school fees for orphans in our community. We also need funds for Shabbat Kiddush and meals, which bring our community together in celebration and prayer. These efforts ensure that everyone, including orphans and widows, has access to the essentials they need.
